A big thank you from our captain!

The Bloody Long Walk is Mito Foundation's flagship fundraising event. The 35km challenge is part of the Mito Movement to raise awareness and funds to deliver support services and vital research into mitochondrial disease (mito).

Over $3 million rasied!

2022 has been a massive year with 16,816 walkers taking part in 11 events across the country! We held the very first Wollongong event and had a very welcome return to Perth where eager walkers have been waiting since 2019, due to the pandemic.

We are thrilled to announce that The Bloody Long Walk 2022 has raised an incredible $3,130,000 this year!

The funds raised will support our work to help the mito community and continue the search for a cure. Such as:

  • Increase public awareness of mitochondrial disease (mito)
  • Deliver personalised support to people and families impacted by mito
  • Provide greater access to expert health information through Mito Information Days and Mito Connect Calls
  • Improve health professionals' knowledge of mito so they can provide the best possible care
  • Invest in ground-breaking research to find a cure

An award-winning event

The Bloody Long Walk won Best Charity or Cause-Related Event at the Australian Event Awards this year! This was made only possible by everyone's support, time and commitment.

Special thanks and congratulations to our event partners The Shift and Elevate Fundraising, who have both been working with us for over 10 years to make this event what it is today.

Community spirit

Each walker signed up with different motivations and united as part of the Mito Movement to raise awareness of mito.

"It's a wonderful opportunity to do something for people in need while walking, which I enjoy. I am so grateful for everyone who has supported my challenge. I hope The Bloody Long Walk will educate more people about mito and I encourage everyone to make a donation no matter how big or small" - Karen

"On the day of the event, it's such a beautiful feeling to look around at the start line at all the people who've turned out in support, and know that so many others care!" - Jess, a mito community member

"Thank you for organising such an amazing day! My first one and definitely won’t be my last! Sore, but stoked!! - Tahnee

Captain of the Mito Movement, Noah

Our mito community member Noah Barlow is unstoppable!

This year, he sent some top-notch advice to Pat Cummins, Australian cricket captain and Mito Foundation Ambassador and chose Pat as Vice Captain of the Noah's Ninjas Bloody Long Walk team. Pat was honoured and shared "thanks for taking me under your wing mate!"

As well as being Captain of the Mito Movement, Noah has been a School Captain this year and won the principal's award. Thank you for being such an inspiring leader!

We love our volunteers!

Wollongong vols

A big thank you to all our incredible volunteers. They help keep our costs down so we can focus on funding work that makes a real difference to the mito community. We can't do it without you!

"It's so great to be part of the Mito Movement and meet wonderful people. I urge anyone who hasn't tried volunteering before, to give it a go! I have benefited emotionally more than I have given. That is the beauty of volunteering." - Kim

See you in 2023!

We are so grateful to all those who share our commitment to a brighter future for the Australian mito community. We look forward to sharing the 2023 event dates soon. Let's keep walking!
