If you are interested in attending the Adelaide Mito Information Day in person, please register right away. Attending in-person provides the unique opportunity to speak directly with health providers, researchers and community members.
If you want to attend on the day and need assistance, please apply for a Mito Foundation Travel Grant.
The Mito Foundation understands that travel and accommodation costs can make it challenging for people outside capital cities to attend. We hope that by assisting with these costs, those experiencing financial hardships will enjoy the benefits of meeting the speakers and other attendees in person.
Dr Drago Bratkovic is the Head of the Metabolic Unit at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide and we’d like to recognise the exceptional care he provides families impacted by mito. Clinical trials are a core element for any research that has the chance to go on to help people with mito and often people in the mito community are asked whether they would like to participate in trials, but what is a clinical trial? In this presentation Drago Bratkovic will introduce the clinical trial fundamentals; the how’s, the why’s and the what’s, and why it is that lab research takes so long to make it to the general public. He was a recipient of the Mito Community Appreciation Award in 2021.
Dr Tucker studies the genetic basis of rare diseases, with a current focus on female infertility. Her PhD was completed in 2011, and focused on using state-of-the art genomic approaches to improve the diagnosis and management of patients with mitochondrial disease. She now works within the Reproductive Development group, focusing on the genetics of ovarian dysfunction, particularly premature ovarian insufficiency. She will speak about the latest updates in her research.
Carers SA is the voice for carers across South Australia and supports 250,000 carers to achieve health, wellbeing, resilience and financial security. John Piovesan will introduce Carers SA and talk about their services, and how they can help carers within the mito community.
