The Digital Paediatric Mito Information Day will feature insights from:
- Professor John Christodoulou who will map out the process to have genetic testing for individuals living with mito covered under Medicare Medical Benefits Schedule (MBS), following the success of a recent application for “childhood syndromes”.
- Professor David Thorburn providing an update on the Australian Genomics Mitochondrial Disease Flagship Study that aims to integrate genomic medicine into mainstream healthcare, providing better accessibility for mito families. Professor Thorburn will share the outcomes on the study’s first phase which involved 65 adults and 65 children living with mito.
- Lucinda Freeman to speak about Mackenzie’s Mission, a Federal Government initiative to provide reproductive genetic carrier screening to 10,000 couples across Australia.
