About the event

Living with mitochondrial disease (mito), or caring for someone who does, can change how we see ourselves. You might wonder, who am I now? This Mito Wellbeing Call is a chance to talk about identity, self-worth, and emotional health in a safe and supportive space. Anyone with a connection to mito is welcome. This includes people with mito, as well as family, friends, and carers who support someone with mito.

This Mito Wellbeing Call will be hosted by Shelley Beverley. Shelley is a psychologist and a member of the mito community. She understands the feelings that can come with life after diagnosis and during times of change. Together, we’ll explore how mito can shape, change, or even reveal new parts of who we are. You’ll have the chance to share if you want to — or just listen and reflect.

What to expect

During the session, we will:

  • talk about how identity can change with mito
  • share ideas and feelings
  • learn ways to feel strong and stay connected to who we are
  • think about the parts of ourselves that remain true, even when other things shift.

Why attend

Life with mito can bring many ups and downs — physically, emotionally, and mentally. As symptoms change, or as you care for someone going through changes, you may feel different than you once did. This is normal.

This session is about finding strength in who you are now and honouring all parts of your journey. Whether you’re living with mito or care for someone who is, this conversation can help you feel seen, supported, and more connected to yourself.
