Older adult

This Mito Meet-up is for older adults impacted by mitochondrial disease (mito).

Mito Meet-ups are online support groups led by mito community members. These group calls are safe spaces to connect with people who understand the challenges of living with mito. These are supportive environments to share experiences and find understanding.

Pam Hausler

Pam lives in South Australia. Her journey with mito began with her daughter, Shayli, who was one of the first to be diagnosed with mito in Australia. Shayli tragically passed away in 1990. Pam was later diagnosed with mito herself in 2011. Pam is committed to raising awareness and finding a cure for mito. She finds purpose in connecting with others impacted by mito and offering them support and encouragement in their shared journey.

Diane Cass

Diane is from South Australia. She discovered she had mito after her youngest son was diagnosed — followed by her 2 other sons. Their rare type of mito causes symptoms like pancreatitis, muscle weakness, and fatigue. Diane supports others through Mito Meet-ups and her role as an MCAP member. She is motivated by a desire to use her skills, promote social justice, and support others facing similar circumstances.
