Mito Foundation offers travel grants to help people attend selected Mito Foundation events.

Travel and accommodation costs can make it hard for some people to attend. Travel grants can help reduce these costs.

These events aim to connect, inform and empower people in the mito community.

What costs may be covered?

Grant funding may help cover:

  • travel, such as flights, transfers or petrol
  • up to 2 nights of accommodation
  • accessibility hire
  • Mito Community Summit ticket

Apply for a travel grant

Mito Foundation would like to support all applicants. However, there are a limited number of grants for each event.

Grants may cover some or all travel costs for successful applicants.

Successful grant recipients must book their own travel and send tax invoices to Mito Foundation.

Approved costs will be paid back after the event.

Who can apply

Travel grants are available to:

  • people with a diagnosis of mito
  • their immediate family members
  • their carers

Applicants must live in Australia.

As a guide, travel costs may be paid back when travel is more than 30 km.

Accommodation costs may be paid back when:

  • the attendee lives more than 2 hours from the event, or
  • the event runs in the evening

How to apply

1. Check your costs

  • Think about your travel needs and check how much it will cost to attend.
  • This may include transport and accommodation.

2. Apply online

  • Complete the online application form.
  • Mito Foundation will email you five weeks before the event to let you know if your application is successful.
  • If your application is successful, the email will tell you what costs can be paid back and the approved amount.

3. Book your travel

  • Once funding is confirmed, book your travel.
  • Keep all receipts for Mito Foundation.

4. Send your reimbursement form

  • After the event, Mito Foundation will send you a reimbursement form.
  • Complete the form and send it to supportservices@mito.org.au
    within 4 weeks of the event.
  • You can also email this address if you have questions.
  • Approved costs will be paid into the bank account you provide within 3 weeks of Mito Foundation receiving the completed form.
  • Grant recipients are encouraged to give feedback about their experience.

Important information

Only costs that were quoted and approved before the event can be paid back.

Mito Foundation can only pay back costs up to the approved amount.

All costs must have:

  • an ATO-compliant tax invoice
  • proof of payment

Mito Foundation cannot pay costs back without receipts.

Mito Foundation cannot pay for costs that are not related to travel to the event, even if they are within the approved amount.

For example, Mito Foundation cannot pay for taxi trips beyond the airport, accommodation and event venue.

The grant recipient must attend the event the travel grant was for.
