Changes to the Mito Foundation Board

The Mito Foundation is committed to giving all members of the mito community a voice and so draws its board members from across Australia.

Since 2014, Dave Cleary has represented WA. He has recently relocated from Perth to Sydney and therefore has stepped down from the Board. The directors and staff thank Dave for his contribution and wish him, Jane and son, Jackson, the very best for their future in Sydney.

The Mito Foundation has the pleasure of welcoming Fiona Elmer as Director and her husband, Dan Loden, as her alternate to the Mito Foundation Board as new WA representatives. Fiona is a geologist with a research background, and is also a founding member of the Mito Foundation’s Mito Community Advisory Panel. Since their eldest child, Aidan, was diagnosed with mito in October 2014, Fiona and Dan have been involved with several fundraising events.

Fiona has played a vital role in organising Perth Support Group Meetings and continues to work with the patient community. She has also been a patient speaker at the Perth Mito Information Day in 2017. Dan is helping the Mito Foundation advocate to change federal and state laws to permit mitochondrial donation in Australia. This groundbreaking IVF technique will give Australian women with faulty mitochondrial DNA the chance to have children free of mito.

A warm welcome to Fiona and Dan from all of us at the Mito Foundation.
