Medical Energy Rebate

Mitochondrial disease (mito) patients who have issues with regulating their body temperature and hold a Pensioner Concession Card may be eligible for the Medical Energy Rebate, an annual rebate on electricity in addition to the electricity rebate listed above. Taxi Subsidy Scheme

Mito patients may be eligible for a taxi transport subsidy, which aims to support those who are unable to use public transport due to a severe and permanent disability. Find out more.

Mobility Parking Scheme

The scheme allows permit holders to park in disabled spaces and to receive concessions in most metered and/or timed public parking spaces. Mito patients who have difficulty walking or have severe vision loss may apply for a permit. The application form and further information is available here.

Telephone Services: Priority/Special Assistance

Some telecommunication providers offer priority or special assistance to people who have a life-threatening medical condition and whose life may be at risk without access to a fully operational phone service. Mito patients who are at high risk of cardiovascular emergencies or patients who live alone, without support or in remote locations may be eligible.

Self Help for Hard of Hearing People provides support services for people with impaired hearing including a hearing aid bank.

Life Support Rebate

People who use electrically operated life-support equipment such as dialysis machines, positive airway pressure devices and enteral nutrition may be entitled to an electricity rebate. Find out more.
