Important medicines for primary mitochondrial disease

International Mito Patients (IMP) have 2 lists. These are:

A group of doctors, pharmacists, and scientists looked over past versions and updated the list. You might find it helpful to print a copy and share it with your health care team. Always check with a health professional before taking any medications to reduce your risk.

Important medicines for Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON)

In addition to the IMP list for primary mitochondrial disease, a specific list has been created for people with LHON.
If you have LHON or a family history, this list includes:

  • medicines that should be used with caution or avoided
  • risk factors that might cause cell stress.

LHON Collective has a list of medications that should be used carefully by people with LHON. You might find it helpful to print a copy and share it with your health care team. Always speak to a health professional before taking any medications to reduce your risk.
