Mitochondrial disease (mito) can impact people of all ages. When we discuss ‘you’ or ‘your’ in this resource, we are including your child, family member, or friend living with or impacted by mito.
When we talk about supplements, we’re referring to vitamin and mineral supplements. These are products that aren’t food but are meant to supplement your diet. Some of these supplements, like antioxidants and certain nutrients, might help with symptoms of mito. However, deciding to take supplements isn’t easy. There’s still a lot we don’t know about how well they work for mito. This guide aims to share what we do know to help you, and for your health care team to make informed decisions about taking supplements.
Input from the mito community has helped inform this resource and our community insights project report. The report highlights current issues facing community members. It also demonstrates the work we continue to do with the community, including an action plan to address these challenges. Learn more about the community insights project report.
